

Pauline "Polly" Wenneborg Roesch, 105, of Springfield, died at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Home. Polly was born December 6, 1910 in Farmersville, the daughter of Otto and Mary Zorn Wenneborg. She married Walter T. Roesch on February 12, 1934 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. Walter preceded her in death in 1977. Polly was a graduate of New Berlin High School, a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and was a past member of St. William's Choir of Naples, FL. She was a past President of New Berlin Women's Club and the Springfield Civic Garden Club. Polly was also a past Director of the District III Garden Club of Illinois and served as a National Flower Show judge. Her many memberships included the Symphony Guild, Vachel Lindsay Association, Friends of Lincoln Library, Springfield Art Association, Mary A. Lawrence Circle of King's Daughters, Chapter CA of PEO, Illinois State Museum Society, Sangamon County Historical Society, World Affairs Council of Central Illinois, University of Illinois President's Council, and UIS Chancellor's Capitol Council. Polly was also a member of Illini Country Club, where she formerly served on the Hospitality committee and had served as Director of a Duplicate Bridge Group that she started in 1994. She also started a Bridge Group at Christ the King Parish in 2004. Polly received the Mayor's Award for the Arts in 1988. In 2002, she was honored by Springfield College in Illinois by being awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree. She was presented with the degree in recognition of her philanthropic contributions to the college, and throughout Springfield and surrounding communities. Polly was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters and is survived by several Wenneborg nieces and nephews and several Roesch nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Roesch Hall, Christ the King Parish Center, 1930 Barberry, Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut Street, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz and Rev. Joseph Ring, concelebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Berlin, IL.
