Perry was the only child of Jessie and Merle Hall of Roberts, Illinois. At the age of five, his mother brought him to Buffalo to live with his grandparents, the Estrops. At age 11, his mother came to help in the household. Perry completed all grades at Tri City until he attended Eastern Illinois University, from which he graduated as a teacher of Business. Typing, Shorthand, Consumer Ed, Economics, American History were some classes. He taught 48 years there and retired in 2011.
On July 3, 1982, Perry and Marilyn were married.
For many years he worked with students creating yearbooks and was paid $75 for the year. He chaperoned many proms; at which time he and Marilyn would join in the dancing. On weekends he and Marilyn would enjoy dancing in various city dance halls. A special experience was on the stage of the Lawrence Welk Show in Branson, Missouri. They would travel there twice during the summer to have fun at the musical shows.
For 19 years, Perry worked summer and Saturdays at the Land of Lincoln Bank at Ninth and North Grand. He attended many openings of new banks in midwestern Illinois and would purchase ten or more shares of stock which proved to be good investments. He enjoyed teaching the stock market at Tri City. The student council inspired 90 students to vote for Perry to be the Regional Teacher of the Year in the SJR Voice section.
He was a 50-year member of the Masons, as well as a Shriner.
We’ll be honoring his memory and the indelible mark he left on the hearts and minds of those he touched. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others will forever be remembered by his friends and all who knew him.
