Pete Maher

Peter A. Maher, 45, of Springfield, left us at 10:21 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center. Pete was born June 18, 1963 in Springfield, the son of George and Clarissa Schafer Maher, Sr. He married Michelle Moon in July 1984 in Springfield. Pete graduated from Griffin High School and from Springfield College in Illinois with an Associate's Degree. He was employed as the manager of several properties including Fallingbrook townhomes. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and of Elks Lodge 158. Pete was a hard worker, very honest and giving. Whenever anyone needed something done, Pete was their go to guy. He was a smart and capable man who was known for helping out anyone in need, especially seniors. He was a great party host and grill master, particularly during Illini basketball games. Pete enjoyed being outdoors golfing, fishing and taking walks with his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Maher of Springfield; a daughter, Chrissy Maher of Springfield; four siblings, George, Jr. (wife, Candace) Maher of Marengo, IL, Matthew (wife, Jude) Maher of Boise, ID, Elizabeth Maher of Springfield and Daniel (wife, Sandy) Maher of Springfield; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his loyal dog, Ginger. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held from 11:00 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament with Rev. David J. Hoefler celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
