
Philip J. Clark, 83, of Springfield, died at 11:27 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Bickford House under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Philip was born April 22, 1934 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Philip Benjamin and Julia Mary Mansfield Clark. Philip graduated from St. Ambrose University with a bachelors degree in Music. Philip began working for the State of Illinois after serving in the United States Army for two years. He retired in 1991 after 32 years of service from the State of Illinois Department of Employment Security. Philip enjoyed listening to classical music, bicycling, boating, reading and writing poetry. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and the friends that he made of his neighbors and his coffee buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Clark; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Clark. He is survived by his siblings, Judith Clark and Robert Michael Clark, both of Rock Island, IL and Daniel Clark of Mt. Pulaski, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will host a graveside ceremony at Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery at a later date.
