Philip W. Smith

Philip was born August 3, 1963, in Springfield, the son of Wendell O. and Thelma L. Douthit Smith.

Philip formerly worked for Lewis Lawn Landscaping for approximately 15 years. He enjoyed working in his yard and doing home improvements. Philip loved the fall season and enjoyed bonfires and going to fall festivals. He also loved researching his family history and genealogy. Philip’s biggest enjoyment of all was spending time with his grandkids whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Steven L. Smith and Stephen O. Smith; and five sisters, Wanda Smith, June Powell, Tammy Scroggins, Elaine Smith, and Barbara Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sherri Smith of Springfield; two daughters, Whitney Smith and Megan Smith, both of Springfield; son, Evan (Vanessa Cushing) Smith of Springfield; five grandchildren, McKenzie and Cameron Harris, Wesson and Everly Smith, and Callie Smith; five siblings, Wayne (Linda) Smith of Estill Springs, TN, Jeannie Lehman of Springfield, Mike Smith of Tennessee, Wendy Hutchison of Springfield, and Donna (Gary) Dunbar of Chatham; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m with Mike Harney officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, requiring face coverings and limiting attendance to 50 guests at one time.

Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery near Pleasant Plains.
