

R. Dean Gumble, 81, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at St. Joseph's Home. He was born February 11, 1928, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the son of Elwood and Ruth Seigh Gumble. He married Jane Marie Cooney on December 27, 1952, in Pittsburgh. Dean graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed by Calgon Chemical Company and owned and operated Capitol Advertising Company in Springfield. He retired from the State Journal Register in 1993, after more than thirty years of service, where he received multiple awards in advertising. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Gumble Levy. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Jane Cooney Gumble; four sons, Mark, John (wife Madeline), Frank "Greg" (wife Tammy), Steve (wife Lori); five daughters, Patti (husband Jim) Berger, Laura (husband Mike) Ray, Rose Gumble, Gretchen (husband Jon) Grieser, Becky (husband Adam) Giganti; son-in-law, Ron Levy; twenty grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Dean's proudest accomplishment was raising ten children with Jane, who all remain great friends. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Family will receive friends for a Memorial Gathering from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The Memorial Gathering will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield, with the Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
