

Richard B. Banker, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Hamilton, OH, died at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2007 at Hickory Glen Distinctive Living Community. Richard was born on May 25, 1925 in Hamilton, OH, the son of John and Annabelle Bland Banker. He married Betty Fletcher Meece on December 31, 1978 at Sarasota, FL. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio and attended Miami University. He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as the Marketing Manager for Pease Woodwork in Hamilton before retiring from there after thirty years of service. He served as Past-President of Rotary International in Hamilton, OH, member of Elks Lodge in Hamilton, member of Panther Creek Country Club and Past-President of Tiara Homeowners Association. He was a former member of Beckett Ridge Country Club in Westchester, OH and Old Port Cove Yacht Club in North Palm Beach, FL Richard was an easy-going gentleman who could fix anything. He enjoyed playing gin, bridge, golf, fishing, dining, traveling and cruising with his wife. He was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: John Banker and his twin brother, Frederick “Fritz” Banker and one sister, Martha. He is survived by his wife, Betty Banker of Springfield; one son, Richard (wife, Vicki) Banker of Westchester, OH; one daughter, Patricia (husband, Randall) Peart of MI; step-daughter, Susan (husband, Leo) Zappa of Springfield; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and several nephews. Cremation accorded by Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The family welcomes friends to visit for a Memorial Gathering from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Rominger officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton, OH. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702-9914.
