

Richard W. Corbin, son of Gerald L. and Sadie (Nutt) Corbin, died Friday, March 1, 2019, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois on October 9, 1940, and raised on a farm North of Towanda, Illinois. In his youth, Richard was active in 4H and raised championship hogs. He attended Lexington Community High School and earned a significant number of hours at Illinois State University, American River Junior College, and Lincoln Land Community College. Richard proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He joined in 1959 and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis as a crew member monitoring U2 flights over Cuba and ensuring Russia was removing missile equipment from the island. Following an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force, he moved to Springfield, Illinois in April 1968. He married Sharron Kathryn Volk on September 14, 1968, and they shared 50-wonderful years. Together they raised two sons, Todd (Deana) Corbin of Petersburg, Illinois, and Chad (Jill) Corbin of Apex, North Carolina. He worked for the State of Illinois for a number of years before purchasing Modern Mailing Systems, which he owned with a partner before his retirement in 1998. He was an avid golfer, an accomplished painter, and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. Richard was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He took great pride in his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Sidney, Ethan, and Savannah, they were his motivation for fighting as hard and as long as he did. He leaves behind a loving wife; two children; four grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Merle) Wiese and Carol (husband, Carroll) Lane; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy Corbin. Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
