

He was born in Springfield, October 26, 1941, the son of Leo L. and Florence “Toots” (Cappella) Dapron. Dick was a graduate of Griffin High School. He married Phyllis L. Young in Springfield, November 19, 1960. She preceded him in death June 16, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Leo Raymond Dapron and his sister-in-law Sharon Dapron.
From 1957-1963 he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Dick was a Plank Owner of the USS Constellation CVA64. He served as a Seaman/Naval Air Intelligence.
Returning to Springfield, he would begin his career with Fiat Allis Manufacturing and served as a Union Steward. He would retire from there after 23 years of service. He later worked at Yamaha Suzuki and Overturf Power Sports as a mechanic.
He also raced semi-pro motorcycles for over 15 years. He enjoyed the Springfield Mile and other short track races, TT races in Peoria, IL and NASCAR.
Dick was a member of the DAV, American Legion and the VFW. He also served as the DJ for the Capital City Cloggers with his wife who was an instructor for them.
Surviving is his son, Jerry (wife Natalie) Dapron, his daughter Jenny Alewelt all of Springfield, his granddaughters; Danielle (husband JD) Moore of Petersburg, IL and Kierstin (husband Ryan) Kilroy of Springfield. He has three great grandchildren; Josey and Hudson Moore (twins) and Fox James Orion Kilroy.
Family and Friends are invited to a graveside service at 12 noon Monday, April 14, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
