

Rita F. Midden, 88, of Springfield died at 4:55 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Rita was born July 17, 1923 in Chicago, the daughter of Leo and Helen Weldon Pflum. She married Henry Midden, Jr. in 1946. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1999. Rita was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Ursuline Academy High School. She attended Springfield Junior College. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Rita was active in the Brinkerhoff Home Foundation, American Association of University Women, Questers Antique Group, St. Joseph's Small Church Community, Depression Glass Club, Central Illinois Daylily Society, Old State Capitol volunteer, Dana Thomas House volunteer and the Springfield Civic Garden Club. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond Pflum and infant, Leo; two sisters, Sister Helen Pflum, OSU and Elizabeth Craig; and great-grandchild, Nicholas E. Midden. She is survived by four sons, H. Edward III (Anne), Leo W. (Ann), Gregory C. (Carol), and Andrew J. (Jennifer), all of Springfield; six daughters, Catherine M. (Ed) Henson of Holiday Island, AR, Cecilia A. (Richard) Rogers, Loretta F. ( fiance, John Guy) Midden, Helen M. (Tom Havenar) Milito, and Rita C. Midden, all of Springfield, and Celeste E. (Tom) Foster of Ada, MI; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service and rosary at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62702.
