

Robert C. Campbell, 90, of Los Angeles, California, died at 3:15 a.m. on December 4, 2020, at Cedar Sinai Medical Center. On December 23, 2021, his widow, Alice C. Campbell, 100, also of Los Angeles, CA, died at 3:00 a.m. at her residence.
Robert was born on March 27, 1930, in Athens, IL, the son of Roy Lehman and Susanne Winterbauer Campbell. Alice was born on May 11, 1921, in Wyoming Stark, IL, the daughter of Charles F. and Hazel Simpson Curtis. Robert and Alice were united in marriage on February 14, 1955, in Charleston, IL.
Robert and Alice met at the University of Illinois and were actively involved with the university for years to come. The first major contribution to the University were the funds to develop Campbell Hall for Public Telecommunications. In 2006, Robert and Alice gifted funds for the Alice Campbell Alumni Center, providing UIAA their finest facility. The Campbells also provided support for the Campbell Hall of Public Telecommunications, the Alice Curtis Campbell Endowed Chair at the College of Law and College of Veterinary Medicine. The couple helped raise funds for new bells in the Altgeld Hall, provided the lead gift to establish the Michael Aiken Endowed Chair, and supported the Matthew Scholar’s program as well as individual scholarships.
Other areas of philanthropic endeavor included the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Foundation, Pepperdine University, and the Assistance League of Los Angeles.
Robert and Alice are survived by one son, Alan (wife, Sabre) Kirkpatrick of Valley Center, CA; two granddaughters; and five great-granddaughters.
Memorial Gathering and Graveside Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
