

Robert H. "Bob" Blackwell, 71, of Riverton, died at 7:29 p.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Bob was born March 16, 1946 in Danville, IL, the son of Robert S. Bratton and Gladys Surratt. He married Judith Knight on December 28, 1967 in Jacksonville. Bob graduated from Springfield High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Okinawa. He was employed as a janitor with the State Journal-Register until his retirement and was previously employed as a cement finisher. Bob was a founding member of the Northenders VFW Post 10302 and the Navy Club. He enjoyed riding his Harley, woodworking, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Judith Blackwell of Riverton; son, Travis Blackwell of Riverton; daughter, Dena Reece; four grandchildren, including Alaina Blackwell; siblings, Rita Hill of Ashland, Patricia J. Surratt of Fresno, CA, Bobby Bratton of Tipp City, OH, Roberta Marquis of Phillipsburg, OH, and Darlene Bratton of Jamestown, OH; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Family will host a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at VFW Post 10302, 2349 Stockyard Rd., Springfield.
