Robert Gubbins Bowen, 54, of Springfield, died at 2:39 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009 at his residence. Robert was born November 3, 1955 in Peoria, the son of Joseph and Lois Gubbins Bowen. Robert was employed in environmental services at Memorial Medical Center. He was a funny, family-oriented gentleman who enjoyed teasing his kids and grandkids. Robert enjoyed woodworking, especially making cabinets and also art. He also really enjoyed the Three Stooges. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a son, Jason (wife, Jamie) Bowen of Springfield; two daughters, Melissa Bowen of Springfield and Jennifer (husband, Trevor) Baird of Chatham; eight grandchildren; three brothers, John (wife, Carol) Bowen of Springfield, Joe (wife, Rosie) Bowen of Sugarland, TX and Mike Bowen of Springfield; three sisters, Brett (husband, Jerry) Young of Rochester, Joannie (husband, Dave) McCallister of Auburn and Patty (husband, John) Bacia of Panama City Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
