Robert "Bob" Dowell

He was born in San Jose, CA, on May 15, 1960, the son of Richard and Eleanor (Halley) Dowell. Bob married Jan Barr in Decatur on August 22, 1987.

Bob was high-energy, funny, and deeply loving, bringing enthusiasm and warmth to everyone around him. He graduated from Homewood Flossmoor High School with the class of 1978. Bob spent 40 years working as a construction project manager for various organizations and devoted 10 years to coaching baseball and soccer. He enjoyed golf, home renovation projects, and had an interest in building and taking apart Star Wars Legos. He was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox, proudly cheering on the teams with his “Buddies” group.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Dowell-Tankel; father, Richard Dowell, Sr.; and stepfather, Les Tankel.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter, Megan (Davor) Dowell Mondom of Syracuse, NY; son, Ryan (Amber Weaver) Dowell of Indianapolis; siblings, Rick (Elaine) Dowell and Chris Dowell, both of Lakewood, CO; stepsister, Roberta (John) Bryant of Orlando, FL; stepbrother, Alan (Jamie) Tankel Libertyville, IL.; sister-in-law, Carol (Gordon) Karker of Peachtree City, GA; brother-in-law, Don (Susan) Barr of Falmouth, ME; niece, Kristin Stevens, Sarah Dowell; nephews, Brandon, Brad, and Bryant Barr, and Geoff Karker, Dustin Dowell and Kathryn Dowell; grand-dog, Izzie; and cat, Boo.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.
