Robert L. Evans

Bob was born on March 5, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Howard and Jane Lewis Evans. He married Beverly Coady of Taylorville on November 15, 1958, at St. Agnes Church in Springfield.

Bob was co-owner of Evans Construction Company for 45 years, which was started by his Grandfather in 1913. He was very proud to oversee the construction of Horace Mann Insurance, the restoration of the Old State Capitol and The Illinois State Library. He also served on the board of Town & Country Bank for 25 years.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Elks Club #158, and served on the Associated General Contractors Industry Advancement Foundation for 20 years. Bob served on the Board of Directors for Ansar Shrine and was a member of several Ansar Shrine organizations, including St. Paul's Lodge #500, Springfield Consistory AASR, Scottish Rite, Belgium Hitch, Arab Patrol and Court #20, Royal Order of Jesters.

He enjoyed many good times on Lake Springfield, traveling, dining out, and his family's special Christmas Eve gathering.

Bob's past year during his illness was a symbol of his strength and dignity.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of Springfield; son Don (Marybeth) Evans of Springfield, daughters, Becky (Kary) McKelvey of Washington, PA., and Tracy (Ron) Mitra of Darien, IL; eight grandchildren, Logan and Rachel Evans, Dominic and Katie Salvo, and Andrew, Jonathan, Ryan, and Luke Mitra.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November, 13, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November, 14, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
