

Bob was born on April 20, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Robert M. and Mabel Phillips Cawley. He married Lillian Cookey on April 17, 1951, in Springfield.
Bob was a 1946 Feitshans High School graduate. He served his country in the United States Army. Bob was employed with IL Bell/AT&T for 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed a game of golf and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. Bob was a lifetime member of the Sangamo Surf Club.
He was preceded in death by his sons, David and Robert D. Cawley; parents; and one brother, Harold E. Cawley.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Cawley of Springfield; one son, Mark Cawley; five grandchildren, Trish Welch of Springfield, Beth (husband, Jake) Eldridge of Colorado, Jennifer Cawley of Springfield, and Tara and Taylor Cawley, both of AZ; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Welch, Charlotte Welch, and Owen Eldridge; daughters-in-laws, Carol Cawley, Bonnie Cawley, and Laura Cawley; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 730 South 12th St., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. James Isaacson, S.J.C., celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
