

Robert Kalb, 87, of Springfield, died at 1:56 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Bob was born December 31, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Arthur and Clara (Reynolds) Kalb. He married Marjorie E. Caufield on January 21, 1952 in Carlinville. Bob was a graduate of Auburn High School and attended The Art Institute of Chicago, after which he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he became a clerk in the Springfield, IL Post Office and he was appointed as rural mail carrier on Route #2 in Springfield, IL in 1956. He retired January 2, 1985. Following his retirement, he joined the staff in the Grand Secretaries office of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of AF & AM of the State of Illinois. In October 1989, Bob was elected to the office of Grand Secretary until his retirement in 2003. He was past Master and Secretary of St. Pauls Lodge No. 500, a member of The Scottish Rite, Valley of Springfield, Ansar Temple AANMS, and Springfield Lodge No. 4 AF & AM. Soon after retirement, Bob and Margie moved to The Villages in Florida where they enjoyed golf and activities for 12 years before returning to Springfield. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Richard Kalb; brother, Russell Kalb; and sister, Dorothea Dodson. He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Marjorie "Margie" Kalb of Springfield; four daughters, Connie Sebok of Springfield and Karen (husband, Kevin) Harris, both of Springfield, Patti (husband, Dennis) Farrar of Kennesaw, GA, and Karla (husband, Stephen) Kuhns of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren, Michael (Alisha) Kalb of Springfield, Nicholas Harris, Collin Harris, and Zachary Harris of Portland, OR, Ashleigh Farrar (Jeff) Lentz of Powder Springs, GA, Jason Farrar of Orlando, FL, and Logan, Rileigh and Delaney Kuhns of Edwardsville; five great-grandchildren, Destiny and Ethen Kalb of Springfield, Trevor Kalb of USMC Camp Lejeune, NC, and Theo and Sullivan Lentz of Powder Springs, GA; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. The visitation will begin with a Masonic Service. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Funeral Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Joseph H. Eby officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Garden of Memories Columbarium at Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
