Robert J. Layendecker

Robert J. “Bob” Layendecker, 85, of Springfield, died at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at St. John’s Hospice. Bob was born on July 11, 1920 in Springfield the son of Frank and Catherine Desch Layendecker. He married Rita McCue on October 16, 1943 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Layendecker, a graduate of Cathedral Boy’s High School, worked for Allis Chalmers and then went on to work for Met Life Insurance Company where he had become a Senior Representative, retiring in 1982. He was a board member for Griffin High School and an original starter of Sacred Heart Griffin Booster Club. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #364, Sacred Heart Nifty Fifty Club, Church of the Little Flower and Little Flowers Mens Club and the retired group for Met Life Midwest Chapter. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Rita of Springfield; two sons: Bob (wife, Pam) Layendecker of Springfield and Bill (wife, Mary) Layendecker of Champaign; four daughters: Linda (husband, Mike) Knox of Springfield, Suzanne (husband, Roger) Horn of Phoenix, AZ, Ginny (husband, Ken) Costa of Petersburg and Trish (husband, Mark) Andracke of Springfield; ten grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; one brother: Kenneth (wife, Sharon) Layendecker of Omaha, NE; two sisters: Rita (husband, Joe, deceased) Ziaja of Hutto, TX, Doris (husband George) Lewis of Claremont, Fl and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 3-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2005 at Church of the Little Flower with Fr. Chuck Edwards celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Griffin Booster Club, 1200 W.
