

Robert “Bob” John Mander, 83, of Springfield, died at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Villa East. Bob was born January 1, 1922 in Oak Park, IL the son of Andrew and Pauline Housner Mander. He married Mary Frances Coleman in 1940 in Missouri. Mr. Mander received his Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Illinois in Springfield. During the 1950’s he was employed as manager of Capital Airport. He went on to work for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation where he was chief of Appraisers until his retirement in 1986 after 30 years of service. After his retirement Mr. Mander went on to work as a consultant for Real Property Acquisition. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during WWII. He was a charter member of #173 Interceptor Squadron with the Illinois National Guard. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was an usher and served on many committees. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #364, and a former member of International Right of Way (IRWA) Chapter 12. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Peter Mander; grandson: Jeffrey Mander; brother: Eugene Mander and sister: Mary June Grudichek. He is survived by wife: Mary Frances of Springfield; two sons: Richard (wife, Libby) Mander of Jacksonville, Robert John (wife, Marky) Mander, Jr. of Pipe Creek, TX; two daughters: Kathy (husband, Jim) Comrie of Springfield, Mary Sue Mander of State College, PA; nine grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; one sister: Patricia Mander of Springfield; one sister-in-law: Claudine Mander of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, Midwest Chapter, Glenbrook Medical Office Bldg. South, 2050 Pfingsten Rd, Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60025.
