Robert Bob E. O'Brien

Robert E. “Bob” O’Brien, 86, of Springfield passed away Thursday May 30, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born in Taylorville, IL November 29, 1926 the son of Thomas P. and Mary E. (Whitesell) O’Brien. Bob served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1951.

He married Betty Enfield in Springfield, September 4, 1949 and she preceded him in death Sept. 2, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a son Kevin, two sisters, Norma Laschech and Patricia Becker and a brother, Thomas O’Brien.

Bob was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church LCMS. Bob enjoyed the residents and community of Concordia Village where he made his home. He served as the coordinator of the Sunday Evening Vespers Service.

Bob retired February 2, 1987 as a Systems Analyst at Franklin Life Insurance Co.

Surviving are his son, Pastor Terrence (wife Sharon) O’Brien of Pana, IL , his daughter, Sandra O’Brien of Springfield, two grandchildren; Bethany (husband Joel) Italiano of Glen Carbon, IL and Todd O’Brien of Collinsville, IL, and three great grandchildren; Ava, Cooper and Brennan Italiano

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until time of the funeral service at 11:00 am Saturday, June 1, 2013 in the chapel of Concordia Village 4101 W. Iles, Springfield, IL at 11:00 am. Revs. Daniel Eggold and Jonathan Vierkant will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery

A reception for friends and family will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday in the Concordia Village Founders Room.
