

Robert L. Pokorney, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Joliet Area Community Hospice. Robert was born July 7, 1926 in Richland Center, WI, the son of Leo G. and Stella K. Lunenschloss Pokorney. He married Katherine F. Miesch on June 2, 1958 at St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Italy. She preceded him in death in 2011. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1952 and earned his Masters of Public Health from the University of MN in 1967. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Mitchell Robert Fajman and brother, Charles F. Pokorney. He is survived by his two sons, Robert J. Pokorney of Jacksonville and Richard C. Pokorney of Springfield; three daughters, Margaret Pokorney of Lake Zurich, IL, Mary Susan (husband, Thomas) Fajman of Channahon, IL and Mary Katherine (husband, Gary) Kobus of Hinsdale; five grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 8:30 until the time of the Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
