Rob was born on December 28, 1979, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Andrew and Susan Deahl
Kalabus. He married Stephanie Thompson on June 23, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Springfield.
Rob attended Musson Elementary in Rochester Hills, MI. He moved to Springfield in 1993 and
graduated from Rochester High School, class of 1998. He earned his bachelor’s degree in
Marketing and Business Administration from SIU-Edwardsville in 2003. Rob utilized his degree
and successfully founded, owned, and operated Springfield Mowers & Power Equipment. He
was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he participated as a group leader in
confirmation classes from 2015 - 2017.
When Rob wasn’t running his business, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening and making his yard
look pristine. He also was an avid traveler and always enjoyed taking trips spontaneously.
Anyone who knew Rob, knew that he always did things to the “nines” and would always go out
of his way to help a complete stranger. Rob’s friends and family were recipients of his huge
heart and were lucky enough to experience his loyalty and outgoing, fun-loving personality.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rob is survived by his wife, Stephanie Kalabus of Springfield; his children, Kaylee and Livia
Kalabus, both of Springfield; stepson, Landon O’Connell of Springfield; sister, Kiersten Lynch
of Springfield; aunt, Becky Bertram of Wausau, WI; and nieces and nephews, Colten Lynch,
Isabella “Izzy” Lynch, Griffen Lynch, and Savannah “Savvy” Lynch.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 11, 2021, at
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2477 W. Washington, Springfield, IL. Illinois COVID-19 guidance
will be followed, requiring face coverings. An additional visitation will be held from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran with
Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face
coverings.
