Robert Chatterton Sankey

Robert Chatterton “Bob” Sankey, 89, of Springfield, died at 2:25 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2005 at his residence. Bob was born June 7, 1915 in Springfield the son of John Edward and Katherine Chatterton Sankey. He married Lorraine Novacek, March 30, 1984 in Springfield. Mr. Sankey was a 1937 graduate of the University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army serving during WWII in field artillery in North Africa and Italy. He was the President of Sankey Brothers Construction Company. He was past president of Illini Country Club, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #755 and Christ the King Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents He is survived by his wife: Lorraine of Springfield; three daughters: Louise (husband, Dr. Peter) Frechette of Gallup, NM, Kate (husband, Drew) Davis of Springfield, Andrea (husband, David) Fister of Mission Viejo, CA; two stepdaughters: Kim Hinckel and Deanne (husband, Brian) Bouska both of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister: Katherine “Sis” Sudduth of Naples, FL; brother: John “Jack” Sankey, Jr. of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry, Springfield, IL with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
