

Robert E. "Bob" Sanner, 72, of St. Louis County, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at DePaul Health Center in St. Louis. Bob was born on April 3, 1937 in Springfield, the son of Bernard and Margaret Ensch Sanner. Bob graduated from Cathedral Boys High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Marquette University. He served in the Illinois National Guard. Early in his career, he served as district manager of Walker Muffler Manufacturing and later became owner of Sanner's Auto Supply in Springfield. An enthusiastic golfer, Bob volunteered as a marshal at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton. He was happily retired, enjoyed time with his family, being a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Preceding Bob in death are his daughter, Marsha Koeller; a brother, Bernard Sanner; a nephew, David Sanner; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Morden of St. Louis, MO; his children, Jon (wife, Karen) Sanner, Maria (husband, James) Pfitzinger, both of St. Louis, MO; mother of Jon and Maria, Susan Hay Sanner of St. Louis; and Dody (husband, Randy) Filipiak of Springfield; his son-in-law, Gregory Koeller; fifteen grandchildren, Caroline, Patrick, and Ryan Sanner, Emily and Elizabeth Pfitzinger, Stephen, Madeline, Mary, and Grace Koeller, Robert "Bob" Sanner, Anthony, Michael, and Jonathan Filipiak, Erin Sturgis, and Nicole Phillips; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jacob Sanner, and Joslin Phillips; his siblings, Sharon (husband, Joe) Madonia and Joan (husband, Bob) Carter, both of Springfield, and James (wife, Karen) Sanner of Boise, ID; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Christ the King, 1930 Barberry, Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association in Memory of Robert Sanner and Marsha Koeller, 2720 River Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
