Robert Watkins

Robert W. Watkins, 70, of Springfield, died at 10:21 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at his residence. Robert was born May 22, 1937 in St. Louis, the son of Webb Benjamin and Ethel Holt Watkins. He married Margie L. Day on June 24, 1956 in Springfield. Robert was employed at Ace Hardware on Walnut as a sales associate for 17 years. He was the ultimate family man, often spending time with his family camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in the Missouri Ozarks. Robert was a member of the Roadrunners Hot Rod Club from 1956 – 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Betty Harding. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Margie L. Watkins of Springfield; one son: Mike (wife, Cathy) Watkins of Lincoln; two daughters: Kathy (husband, Tom) Paoni and Janet (husband, Paul) Ramirez both of Springfield; eleven grandchildren: Michael Watkins, Tanya Hulvey, Thomas and Tara Watkins, Steven and Stephanie Henderson, Joshua, Daniel and Kamber Merz, and Ryan and Alexeus Ramirez; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: Dennis W. (wife, Linda) Watkins of Williamsville, Ronnie K. (wife, Karen) Watkins and Gary (wife, Hassie) Watkins both of St. Louis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Haag officiating. Cremation will follow ceremonies and is accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
