

Robert "Bob" Loyyd Wilson, 66, of Athens, passed away at 12:03 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Bob was born on March 12, 1951 in Springfield, the son of John and Myrtle Hayes Wilson. He married Bonnie Huffman on October 17, 1968 and they later divorced in 1974. He then married Debra J. Moore on January 2, 1976 and they later divorced in 1988. He married Theresa Nagel on October 10, 1992 in Sherman. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army as a sniper and armored tank operator in Gelnhausen, Germany. He started his career in the Army and afterwards worked security for the Springfield airport and the Springfield Lake Police. He then became the New Berlin Chief of Police and later worked at the Sangamon County Sheriffs Department where he retired as a Sheriffs Deputy. Following his retirement, Bob did security work for military affairs and the Department of Revenue. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed shooting practice, and was a part of Romeo Six, which was a group of men that would go out to eat. Bob was a quick-witted person with a great sense of humor. He was a simple man who lived life to the fullest. He was a proud man who enjoyed spending time with his family, and he was proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Wilson and his wife, Marilyn; sister, Elsie Wilson; and sister-in-law, Diane Wilson. He is survived by his children, Matthew Loyyd (wife, Ivana) Wilson of Hillsboro, Tammy Renea (husband, Ollie) Hollo of Hillsboro, and Robert Lee (wife, Trina) Wilson of Springfield; two step-children, Richard J. (wife, Melissa) Sutherland of Springfield and Jody E. (wife, Natalie) Patterson of Chatham; grandchildren, Selina Wilson, Elena Wilson, Alexandrea Robbins, Hunter Marie Moore, and Logan Hollo; step-grandchildren, Perry, Peyton, Parker Sutherland and Natalie Miller, Quinn and Roslyn Patterson, Kristen Vong, and Neko and Brandon Motley; great-grandson, Troy Artrip; step-great-granddaughters, Kylie Marie Ros and Kaylie Rose Vong; and siblings, Velma (husband, Don) Claypool of New Berlin, Albert (wife, Frances) Wilson of Williamsville, Bill (wife, Martha) Wilson of Springfield, and Tom Wilson of New Berlin; as well a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors.
