Roger Robert Feld, 73, of Chatham, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born June 25, 1943 in Quincy, to George and Edna Winking Feld. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Edward and Michael; sisters and their husbands, Eileen (Roland) Klapprott, Jeanette (Ferd) Werneth, Marian (Bob) Scheufele, Barbara (Jack) Koch, and Maureen (Pat) Durand. Roger served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, from 1966-1968. He transferred to the Army reserves until 1972. He and Sharon Christina Lariscy married on August 10, 1968. In the same year, he started working as a transmission tech in Jacksonville for GTE (now known as Verizon). Roger was promoted to office manager in 1974, and he and his family relocated to Chatham. He continued working for GTE, receiving the GTE Telephone Operations Presidents Leadership Award in 1993, and eventually retired at the age of 65. Roger was a family man, and enjoyed participating in CBSI (Chatham baseball) and Southwest Springfield Association Baseball for years as a coach, equipment manager, and concession manager. He encouraged his children in sports, dedicating his time and commitment to them, by attending 99% of their games. Summers were spent with family and their traveling sports leagues, on the road almost every week during the summers. As his children married and started their own families, Roger continued his dedication by extending it to the next generation, his grandchildren! Even his nieces and nephews commented that he was a favorite uncle, because he was always ready with a joke that made them laugh. Roger always had a smile on his face and will be forever remembered as the most thoughtful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. With his volunteer service in mind, memorial contributions may be made to the Chatham Friends of the Parks, P.O. Box 313, Chatham, Illinois, 62629, for a memorial bench. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Sharon; and their children, Christopher (Jennifer) Feld of Chatham, Melissa Feld Newsom of Chatham, Adam (Brooke) Feld of Chatham; grandchildren, Isabelle Newsom, Christopher Feld, Aidan Feld, Kate Feld, Cassandra Feld, Evangeline Newsom, Carlyann Feld, Sydney Feld, Sophia Feld; brothers, Kenneth (Vera) Feld of Winfield, IL, Jack (Betty) Feld of Edwardsville, sisters, Patricia (Dutch) OConnell of Oak Island, NC; sisters-in-law, Bernice Feld of Woodstock, IL, and Karen Feld of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
