

He was born November 25, 1948, in Springfield, IL, the son of August I. and Lena Jurgens Theilen.
Roger graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1967 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the State of Illinois Department of Revenue for 31 years. Roger enjoyed life through his friendships, his nieces and nephews, and his Wednesday coffee group. He always said “Life is too short, not to be happy”. Roger enjoyed traveling, gambling, and playing cards. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Wayne, and Kenneth Theilen; and three sisters, Alice Walter, Linda Allen, and Lois Theilen Selinger.
Roger is survived by his siblings, Barbara Theilen of Springfield, Joyce Theilen (Ken) Boehme of Pleasant Plains, Larry (Barbee) Theilen of Springfield, and Merle Theilen of Pleasant Plains; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Ken Allen of Brighton, IL; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Theilen of Pleasant Plains, IL
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield.
Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
