

Ronald Eugene Sides, 68 of Springfield died at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home. Ron was born November 28, 1943 in Charleston, SC the son of Eugene and Lucille Herbst Sides. He married Susan Gregory on July 5, 1969 in Jacksonville. Ron was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from South East Missouri State, a Master's Degree in Business Administration from UIS and completed graduate programs in banking from the University of Wisconsin and the Darden School of Strategic Loan Change at the University of Virginia. Ron began his career with Merck, Sharp and Dohme. He moved to the SIU School of Medicine and then joined Springfield Marine Bank as Director of Marketing in 1974. During his 34 year banking career, Ron held positions of Assistant Vice President in Marketing, Sales and Marketing, and Commercial Lending. He was the First Vice President at Bank One and retired as Regional President of Commercial Banking at JP Morgan Chase in 2008. Ron was active with the United Way, serving as Business Division Campaign Chair and Vice Chair of the United Way Board of Directors in 2001. In 2002, Ron served as Chair of the United Way Board and he was the Central Illinois United Way Campaign Co-Chair in 2003. Ron was the Vice Chair of the Board and Head of the Audit for the Central Illinois Community Blood Center from 2000-2008. He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Ron enjoyed hiking and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ron is survived by his wife Susan; his daughter Alison Sides Morton (husband, Paul Edward Morton) of Seattle, WA; one granddaughter Grace Evelina Morton; two sisters, Brenda Sides Emerson (husband, Robert Emerson) of Kirkwood, MO and Linda Craig (husband, Ron Oyer) of Glendale, MO; one niece, and several cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Ring and Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, concelebrants. Private family burial will be at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville at a later date.
