

He was born on December 3, 1944, in Teaneck, NJ, the son of Spiros and Frances (Rosser) Dolgos.
Roy was a native of New Jersey and attended Dumont High School, where he was an all-state basketball player. After graduation, he attended Loyola University of Chicago for his freshman year. Roy was drafted to serve in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 as a military policeman. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Roy pursued his education in business at Central Connecticut State University from 1968 to 1972, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree.
He moved to Chicago, IL, in 1973 and was employed at Arrow Illinois Trucking Company as the general manager from 1973 to 1986. In 1986 to 1988, he was employed by Chauffeurs Driving School as the Director, where he managed 250 employees. In 1990, he was employed by General Parking Company as a facility manager. Roy was on the City of Chicago Veterans Advisory Council for 14 years and served as Chairman for 4 years.
In 2003, Roy was appointed by Governor Blagojevich to be Director of Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, he served with the Illinois Department of Transportation as Deputy Director of Highways and Traffic Safety. Roy retired in 2014.
During his retirement, Roy traveled abroad and locally visiting family and friends and participated in numerous veteran activities. He was known as a good, loyal, and supportive friend who was devoted to his family.
SP4 Roy L. Dolgos was the recipient of the Bronze Star in 1967 for ground operation against hostile forces and earned the Good Conduct medal, National Defense ribbon, Vietnam Service ribbon with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign ribbon, and three unit citations. His personal awards include the Juvenile Hero award from the Joseph Lapham Social Club; All-state Basketball Player; Top 500 Basketball Players in the Nation; Dumont High School Hall of Fame; and the Greek Basketball Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roy is survived by his loving partner, Alberta Hogan, and her daughter, Natalie; sister, Juliet Bryan and brother-in-law, Michael Bryan; nieces and nephews, PJ and Ryan, Andrew and Monica, and Kevin and Julie; great-niece, Avery; and great-nephew, Nolan.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
The family will host a Graveside Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, at a later date.
