Roy E. Harper, Jr.

Roy E. Harper, Jr., 56, of Jacksonville, FL passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Kishwauke Hospital in Dekalb, IL. Roy was born June 24, 1954 in Columbus, OH, the son of Roy Edward and Norma J. Hudson Harper. He married Sandra Higginbotham on December 13, 1973 in Elk Grove Village, IL. Roy was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, bowling and golf. He was a very caring, fun loving jokester who enjoyed telling stories. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Edward Harper, Sr.; a brother, Charles Edward Harper; his step-father, Robert Clayton; aunt and uncle, Gladys and Frank Melton; and a nephew, Joshua Harper. Roy is survived by his mother, Norma J. Clayton; his wife, Sandra Harper; a son, Roy E. Harper, III; a daughter, Shannon Harper; six grandchildren; one brother, R.G. Clayton of Los Angeles, CA; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, followed by a funeral ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
