

Russell W. Loew, 94, of Springfield, IL, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Heritage Health. Russ was born November 4, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles P. and Elizabeth (Elwart) Loew. He married Frances Ann Hendricks on July 20, 1946; she preceded him in death in 2012. Russ attended Helen C. Pierce Elementary School in Chicago and St. George School in Evanston. He worked for Youngs Appliances for 40 years and Sears for two years. He was a member of St. Cabrini Parish. Russ enjoyed playing softball, bowling, traveling with his wife, going to the casino, making models, planting flowers, attending parties, and square dancing. He was also an avid Cubs fan and fisherman. Russ participated in the Senior Olympics and won a gold medal in Wii Bowling. He was also preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ben Quid; step-brother, Roland Peterson; son-in-law, Bud Harness; grandson, Scott Humphries; and great-grandson, Jeremiah Williams "Gasparin". He is survived by his son, Russell (Madlyn) Loew of Middletown, IL; five daughters, Diana Harness of Fenton, MO, Gloria (Henry) Humphries of Springfield, IL, Frances (Mark) Beveridge of Hillsboro, MO, Peggy Knollenberg of Lincoln, IL, and Janet Loew of Springfield, IL; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Roy (Dorothy) Quid and Clyde (Barb) Quid. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Cabrini Church, 1020 N. Milton, Springfield, with Rev. Scott Thelander, SJC, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Cabrini Church, 1020 N. Milton, Springfield, IL 62702.
