Ruth Ann Giachetto

Ruth Ann Giachetto, 93, of Springfield passed away at 11:22 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 17, 1921 in Springfield, the daughter of Glen J. and Kathryn Kelly Fisher. Ruth married John D. Giachetto on January 24, 1942 in the Marine Corps Chapel in Quantico, VA; he preceded her in death on December 2, 2011. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Ruth worked in the Admissions Office at Sangamon State University as a credentials analyst for thirteen years and retired in 1983. Upon retirement she focused on her bridge game. She spent many enjoyable afternoons at the Bridge Center as well as games with close friends. She was a founding member of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Guild. Ruth was a member of Illini Country Club and a former member of Springfield Art Association, Springfield Garden Club and volunteered with St. John's Samaritans. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Catherine Graham; and nieces, Mary Catherine Evans, Sandra Graham and Michelle Arthur. She is survived by one daughter, Cytree Budde of Chesterfield, MO; four grandchildren, Ann (husband, David) Durham of Denver, CO, Christopher Fisher Budde of Chesterfield, MO, Cytree (husband, Clive) Berman of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and Kathryn (husband, Michael) Buckley of Denver, CO; six great-grandchildren, Katie and Jack Durham, Carson Berman and Ryan, Patrick and Mac Buckley; and one nephew, Paul Graham of Fort Worth, TX. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Hospice, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62769 or a charity of the donor's choice.
