

She was born on November 11, 1940, in Springfield, the daughter of Harold B. and Lila M. (Lankford) Jones. Sharon married Thomas W. Perkinton on September 1, 1995, in Springfield. He preceded her in death, on March 26, 2021.
Sharon graduated from Lanphier High School. She went on to work in the insurance industry with Horace Mann, retiring in 1997. She volunteered at the state fair for many years, and also at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Sharon was a member of Elm Street Christian Church, where she was involved in the Women’s Faith Circle. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, and Home Extension. Sharon enjoyed hunting for yard sales and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Punkin Pie” grandma. Sharon didn’t know a stranger, she would talk to anybody and everybody.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sylvia D. Trippel; granddaughter, Emily Surgis; and a great-grandchild.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Kelly (David) Sumpter of Litchfield; son, Walter (Cindy) Surgis III of Springfield; grandchildren, Zachary T. Christensen, Brady T. Christensen, and Katie (Andrew) Johnson, all of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Kennedy, both of Springfield; sibling, David P. (Donna) Jones of Joplin, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Elm Street Christian Church, 3020 E. Elm St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 10:00 a.m., with Chaplain Nick Butcher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
