

Sister M. Lucy Liu, O.S.F, 86, of Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in Springfield, died at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at St. Francis Convent. Sister Lucy, the former Din Ling Liu, was born on October 15, 1919 in Puo Ping, Shantung, China, the daughter of Peter and Martha Liu. Sister Lucy entered the Congregation in China on October 8, 1945 and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1948. She was a 1957 graduate of St. Francis High School. She served the community as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield and St. Anthony Hospital, Effingham. She returned to the Motherhouse in Springfield in 1994 due to failing health. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul Liu. She is survived by one brother: Dian Shi Liu of China, one niece; one nephew; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life with for sixty-one years. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the St. Francis Convent Motherhouse, 4849 LaVerna Rd., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2006 at St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the St. Francis Convent Motherhouse, with Father Barnabas Diekemper, OFM celebrant. Burial will follow at Crucifixion Cemetery. The family of Sister Lucy Liu is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
