

Sr. Darlene (Margherita) Fulgenzi, OSU, died peacefully at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka, MO on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. The daughter of Adolfo and Margaret Daniele Fulgenzi, she was born on February 28, 1938 in Springfield, Illinois. She is survived by 2 brothers: James (Linda) and Ferdinand both of Springfield, IL and her sister Donna (Richard) Putting of Tucson, AZ. Sr. Darlene is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Jim Fulgenzi, Danielle (Nick) Fulgenzi Giacomini, Margaret (Ed) Sauer, Karen (Phil) Brooks, all of Springfield. Margaret (Rick) Bland, Paula (Randy) Robsin, Jacqueline Putting-Thomas, Richard (Shannon) Putting, all of Tucson, AZ, Donna (Ernie) Joseph of Bristol, VA and Jude (Kristin) Putting of Kennesaw, GA plus 12 great nephews and 10 great nieces. Sr. Darlene attended St. Josephs elementary school and Ursuline Academy graduating in 1956 in Springfield, IL. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1956 and professed her vows in January 1959. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in classical languages from the College of New Rochelle (New Rochelle, New York) and her Master of Arts degree in Latin from St. Louis University. She also studied scripture and spirituality at the Ursuline Generalate in Rome, Italy during her tertian year of spiritual renewal in 1977-1978. Her many years of ministry included elementary school teaching at SS. Peter and Paul in Alton, Illinois and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Galveston, Texas; and high school teaching at Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood, Missouri and Marquette High School in Alton, Illinois. Sr. Darlene also served as the prioress of Ursuline communities in Alton, Illinois; Galveston, Texas; Kirkwood, Missouri; and Springfield, Illinois. In her semi-retirement, she was the assistant archivist for the Alton Ursuline community. A celebration of Sr. Darlenes life will be on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, Illinois, 62702. The visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral and internment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund, 353 S. Sappington Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122.
