Sister M. Gloria Hanley, 92, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died March 12. She was born to John and Stella (Fox) in Jacksonville. She joined the Dominican Sisters in 1937. Sister's ministries included teacher and principal. She also served in congregational administration as vicaress, councilor, and director of temporary professed sisters. Sister M. Gloria taught at St. Christina, Chicago; St. Isidore, Farmersville; St. Norbert, Hardin; St. Augustine and St. Mary, East St. Louis; and SS Peter and Paul, Cary. She was principal at St. Lawrence, Penfield; St. Maurice, Morrisonville; Holy Cross, Mendota; St. Cabrini, Springfield; and St. Charles Borromeo, Hampshire. Sister also taught as Sacred Heart Academy, Springfield and was assistant principal at Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights. Sister M. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack, and two sisters: Harriet Lockman and Virginia McGrath. She is survived by her brother, Connie Hanley, of Jacksonville, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is at Sacred Heart Convent: Monday, March 14, 2011 from 3:30-6:15 p.m.; Vigil Service: 4:30 p.m.; Funeral Mass: 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Peter Witchousky OP, presiding. Commendation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Sacred Heart Convent with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
