

Stephen "Skip" A. Skipton, 70, of Springfield, died at 5:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital. Stephen was born March 12, 1947 in Springfield, IL the son of Robert E. and Mary V. (Williams) Skipton. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Steve worked for 25 years at Friendly Chevrolet, and was General Manager of Decatur Honda and owner of Chatham Auto Sales. He was an avid car enthusiast, owning several show cars in his lifetime. Most of all, Steve was a very kind and loving person. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one daughter, Carla Skipton of Champaign, IL and companion Kay Tuttle of Springfield. The family would like to especially thank the St. Johns Hospital 8th Floor Oncology staff that helped with Steves care. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:15 am on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 am on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
