

Steve was born June 22, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Stephen Joseph and Susan (Danko) Koskey. He married Joanne Theresa Tumulty on September 26, 1953, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on August 27, 2009,
Steve was a lifelong resident of Springfield and attended Lanphier High School. He also received an honorary degree in Traffic Engineering from Northwestern University and graduated from the FBI Quantico program. Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War where he received the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Steve became a Springfield Police Officer in the 1950s and retired as Assistant Chief in the 1980s. During his time at the Springfield Police Department, he had a special assignment as traffic engineer officer for the City of Springfield. After retiring from the SPD, Steve became the Director of Emergency Services for Sangamon County and then worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in the office of traffic safety. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing things and building TVs, and watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Louis Koskey.
Steve is survived by his children, Lynn Koskey of Divernon, Cindy (Doug) Trew of Mechanicsburg, and Steve (Jeannie) Koskey of Springfield; six grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Doug Trew officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
