Steve was born May 6, 1961, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Lawrence and Rose (Reusch) Bahner. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Sedalia, Missouri, and later graduated from Central Missouri State University. Steve married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Disco in Chatham, Illinois, on October 5, 1991, and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Amy Limoli of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and his sister, Diane Bahner of Sedalia, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Bahner; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary Lou and Vincent Disco.
Steve was a teacher for several years before beginning his career with International Gamco and Lancaster Bingo Company. This transition brought him to Springfield, where he built his business and community. Steve made friends easily and joined several clubs and organizations, including SERTOMA, where he served on the Board of Directors, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Agnes Catholic Church. Through these organizations, he formed many lasting friendships and was proud to support their charitable work, especially with the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Steve enjoyed sports both as a player and a fan. He played basketball and softball and was an avid bowler, participating in three bowling leagues. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Royals.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 6, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, IL 62702, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Daniel Bergbower as celebrant. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery, west of Springfield.
