Steven L York

Steve was born in Centralia, IL September 23, 1950. He enlisted in the United States Army September 17, 1968 and served in the Vietnam War from September 16, 1969 until September 15, 1970. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. He was honorably discharged from service, September 16, 1974.

After military service, Steve returned to college where he earned a Master of Education degree. He served as an educator with the Illinois Department of Corrections for many years, retiring in 2012.

Steve, a strong man of faith, volunteered with the Carpenter’s for Christ, traveling throughout building churches and other buildings. He was a strong supporter of the American Red Cross and had a passion for many other charitable organizations. He was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden, IL.

Surviving are his two sons; Jason York and Derek (wife Jami) York both of Springfield, a granddaughter and a step grandson, his sister, Dodie (husband Lynn) Meredith of Odin IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a host of friends and extended family.

In accordance with Steve’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.

Private family graveside services will be held in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
