Susan Lee Wright Dennis

Susan was born on February 20, 1949 in Springfield, the daughter of David and Helen Chambers Wright. She married Robert Dennis on July 26, 1971 at Christ Church in Springfield.

Susan graduated from Springfield High School as the Valedictorian of her class of 1967. She then attended Illinois College where she obtained her bachelor’s degree. Susan also attended the University of Illinois Springfield and Springfield College furthering her education. She worked as a homemaker taking care of her family and making spirituality the foundation of the family. She was a volunteer for Inner City Mission, helped with Contact Ministries, and was a former member of the Springfield Opera. Susan was an active member of Christ Church where she also sang in the choir.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leslie Wright; grandson, Tyler Carroll; and great grandsons, Noah and Bentley.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; her sons, Stephen and Todd Dennis; daughters, Sheri Carroll, Christy Atterberry, and Rebecca “Becky” Dennis; fourteen grandchildren, Makinzie, Brandin, Stephanie, Levi, Morgan, Matt, Ashley, Victoria, Amber, Brett, Katharine, Shelby, Harlie, and Cheyanne; and five great grandchildren, Zayden, Owen, Addie, Dakota, and Sabrina.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Christ Church, 611 E. Jackson Street, Springfield, with Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Tournoux officiating. Burial will follow the ceremony at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
