Susan K. (Hughes) McCullough passed away on April 8, 2025 at Regency Care. She was born February 5, 1954 to Lloyd M. Hughes and Mary E. Parker. They both preceeded her in death, along with a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Curt Davis, of Nashville, TN. She is survived by 6 brothers and sisters, Manette (Russell) Carlstrom, Louise Hughes, Lawrence Hughes, Patricia Hughes, Clifford Hughes and Russell (Jennifer) Hughes, all of Springfield, Illinois. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Sue served in the Army for a short time until she was given an honorable discharge for medical reasons. That is where she met her ex-husband Hathaway McCullough. She spent many years traveling with Hath, wherever the Army told him to go. She returned to Springfield and worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield until she permanently retired from the workforce. Sue enjoyed collecting unusual things and had a keen eye for decorating. Some of her collections included snowmen, barn pictures, items with violets and cobalt blue glass. Sue's interests included cooking, sports (specifically the Cubs and Bears) as well as flea markets/garage sales. Some of the words used to describe Sue were spunky, ornery and stubborn (not that the rest of the Hughes' know anything about that). Sue will be missed!
