Sylvia Coral Buffington Garner

Sylvia was born January 17, 1936 in Sublette, KS, the daughter of the late Chalmer Dale and Laura Pearl Derby Buffington. She graduated from Satanta High School in 1954 and attended Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, OK.

She married William Edward Garner on March 23, 1958 in Oklahoma City, OK and accompanied him to various duty stations in the United States and Europe while he served in the US Army for 30 years. She worked in accounting as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Laurinburg Church of the Nazarene where she had many responsibilities and was involved with the Hope in Christ Food Pantry Ministry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Shirley Lea Buffington Wright and Carolyn Jeanette Wright Pickens; and brother, Dale Derby Buffington.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Cheryl Olmstead of Springfield, IL, John Garner (Doree) of Burlington, KY, and David Garner of Ludowici, GA; brother, John Wright (Terri) of Gardner KS; sister, Crystal Aubrey of Olathe, KS; her grandchildren, Laura Kresse (Greg), Jamie Blandford (Adam), and Jason Garner; great-grandson, Oliver Kresse; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2014 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Fred Prince. Burial will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
