

Thomas Joseph DiLello, Sr., 87, of Springfield, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Thomas was born June 28, 1927 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Elena (Esposito) DiLello. Thomas attended Sacred Heart Elementary and was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Thomas attended Bradley University, where he played football for a short time. He told everyone, "College was easy; I was in and out in 4 months." For over 40 years, Thomas owned and operated The Office Tavern and then retired from CWLP after 16 years. He was a huge sports fan and his favorite teams were the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, Fighting Illini, Notre Dame, and any team his grandchildren were playing for. Thomas was a loyal friend and a great family man. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Anthony DiLello; and the mother of his children, Geri DiLello. He is survived by his son, Thomas (wife, Debbie) DiLello, Jr., of Springfield; two daughters, Barb (husband, Bob) Smithers of Pleasant Plains and Kari "Mickey" (husband, Kent) Cornelius of Pleasanton, CA; seven grandchildren, Bobby (wife, Lanae), Joe (wife, Sierra), and Kayde Smithers, Kacie and Trevor Cornelius, Ali Smithers, and Dominic DiLello; and three great-grandchildren, Elle, Lyla, and Ivy Grace Smithers. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A private family Funeral Mass and burial will be held. Celebration of Life: The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Office Sports Bar & Grill, 1919 W. Iles Ave., Springfield.
