

Thomas E. "Tom" Eddington, Sr., 67, of Springfield, died at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at St. John's Hospice. Tom was born March 7, 1942 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Rose Wilson Eddington. He married Jean Bartolmucci on March 27, 1982 in Buffalo. Tom was a 1960 graduate of Griffin High School. He served his country in the Army National Guard Unit 3637. They were called to active duty in 1961 by President Kennedy to assist in the Berlin Crisis. Tom was employed by the State Journal Register from 1962 to 1969. He also started Tom Eddington Plumbing and Trenching in 1964, which still serves the community today. Tom was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic minister, lector and choir member. He enjoyed boating, and vacationing especially at his cabin in the Ozarks. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rose Blakley and brother, Joseph Eddington. He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Jean Eddington of Springfield; three sons, Thomas E. Eddington, Jr. of Park City, UT, Todd B. (wife, Amy) Eddington of Springfield and Daron S. (companion, Angie Ward) Eddington of Athens; four grandchildren, Seth, Cade, Lindsey and Maia Eddington; five sisters, Eileen Drendel and Mary Riddle both of Springfield, Patty (husband, George) Fleck of Sherman, Sister Mary Trinita of Jackson, MS and Judy (husband, Ron) Blakley of Chatham; two brothers, Jim (companion, Terri) Eddington and Bill (wife, Ann) Eddington both of Springfield; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dogs, a Yorkie named Rambo and Pomeranian named Foxy. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Rev. Richard L. Chiola celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
