

Thomas William Flynn, 62, of Springfield, formerly of Athens, died at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. Tom was born March 5, 1942 in Jacksonville the son of William and Bess O’Donnell Flynn. He married Debra McConathy in 1970 in Texarkana and divorced in 2000. Mr. Flynn was a graduate of Winchester High School where he was a standout athlete. He earned his associates degree from Lincoln College in Lincoln and later attended Northeastern Missouri State in Kirksville, MO. He played basketball for both Lincoln College and Northeastern Missouri State and was inducted into the All American Basketball Hall of Fame at Lincoln College. Tom was employed as manager for Lucky Lady Laundries. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Holly Jayne (husband, David) Grady and Kelly Elizabeth Flynn both of Springfield; ex-wife, Debra Flynn of Springfield; granddaughter, Madison Jayne; sisters, Joan (husband, Walter) Hodde, Patricia Hanken, Marjorie Flynn and Judith Flynn, all of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Memorial Mass will be at 1:30 Friday, November 5, 2004 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL 62704 with Rev. Msgr. Kevin Vann celebrant. Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery in Winchester, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The family of Thomas William Flynn is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
