Valerie Kay Strayer

She was born June 13, 1964, in Paducah, KY, the daughter of Sam and Brenda (Flatt) Walker. Valerie married William Harley Strayer on May 31, 1992, in Springfield.

Valerie graduated from Astoria High School in Astoria, IL. She retired from the Department of Agriculture with the State of Illinois. Valerie was a friend to everyone, she was outgoing, energetic, had a contagious laugh, and loved her animals. Valerie was an avid bow hunter who loved cooking, gardening, and canning her crops.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam; and brother, David W. Walker

Valerie is survived by her husband, Bill Strayer; mother, Brenda Walker; children, William “Will” Strayer, Shelbi (Rhett England) Strayer, Courtney Terry, and Laura Strayer; grandchildren, William Terry, Wyatt Hills, and Scarlett England; sister in-law, Debi Walker; niece, Taylor Walker; and uncle, David L. (Nikki) Walker.

Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
