

Virgie Maria Spaulding, 88, a resident of Springfield since 1997, died at 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at St. John’s Hospice. Virgie was born September 14, 1917 in Pearl, IL, the daughter of Lee and Golda Gregory Sturgen. She married Charles L. Spaulding on December 3, 1936; he preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Spaulding was employed as a restaurant consultant for various businesses. She also had lived in Venice, FL for 25 years, Peoria and Jacksonville, IL. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Virgie was a gentle, loving woman. She raised several children in addition to her own. She enjoyed preparing family meals, dog breeding, sewing, gardening, fishing, playing pinochle, singing and playing guitar. She was a very spiritual woman, delivering Holy Communion to the homebound and she had a true love for people. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and one granddaughter: Laurie Sutton. She is survived by one son: Charles “Chuck” Spaulding of Springfield; one daughter: Suesan (husband, Terry) Rule of Peoria; two grandchildren: Shawn Sutton and Angelo Tiffie-Rule; two nieces: Ruth (husband, Bill) Browning and Louise Marsh both of Jacksonville; and one nephew: Leroy (wife, Dottie) Lawson of Winona. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Father Michael Haag officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, near Riverton.
