

Virginia was born on February 20, 1929, in Carlinville, Illinois to John and Marie (Rosentreter) Hoelting. Virginia graduated from Carlinville High School. She worked as an office assistant for Dr. W.W. Lusk at the Carlinville Clinic. She was well known throughout town as the pretty office assistant with the gentle touch. She also worked as a medical record clerk for over 20 years at Carlinville Area Hospital. Virginia married Duane Morehead in 1948, after Duane returned from serving in the Navy in WW2. They welcomed 6 children.
Virginia was active in her faith, holding the office of Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. After retirement, she enjoyed being a student mentor in the reading program though Carlinville School district. As a homemaker, Virginia enjoyed sewing and decorating her home. She loved to bake, and she was known for her delicious angel food cakes and cherry pies. Virginia loved arranging flowers, especially the Mr. Lincoln roses grown for her by her husband Duane. Family time was always special to her, and she delighted in always making sure there were fresh cookies waiting for arriving guests.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents John and Marie Hoelting; husband, Duane Morehead; son, Keith Morehead; brothers Joseph, Jerald, and Dean Hoelting; sisters Marge Miner and Marilyn Kunztman; and granddaughter Lucie Morehead.
Virginia is survived by sons, Gerry (Soo-Young Lee) of Brooklyn, NY, Michael (Tina) of Springfield, IL, and Thomas (Jean) of Chicago, IL; daughters, Niki (Linda Smith) of Palm Springs, CA and Cheryl (Jim) Donaldson of Carlinville, IL; daughter in law, Claudia Ann Morehead of Arlington Heights, IL; sisters, Jeannette Gagan of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Marsha Hester of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; brothers, Bill Hoelting of Rockford, IL and Bob Hoelting of Bartlett, IL; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a circle of friends.
Memorial Gathering and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at SS Mary & Joseph’s Catholic Church, 2010 E. 1st Street, Carlinville, IL 62626. Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Koyickal, SAC officiating.
Burial will immediately follow mass at New Calvary Cemetery in Carlinville, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at SS Mary & Joseph’s Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL.
